on Aurora Laser from Health & Living
June 2004
The revolutionary Aurora Laser was
recently seen on TV3's Ireland AM. It is the only laser FDA
approved
in this class to remove
blonde, grey and white hair and to be used in all skin types
without fear of side effects. Health & Leisure Magazine went
along ot the Ailesbury Clinic in Ballsbridge to interview Dr.
Patrick Treacy about the new laser and the only one of it's kind
in Ireland
H&L How does the new Aurora laser
get rid of unwanted hair?
Dr. T: The Aurora laser uses gentle light and electric energies
to damage the hair follicle. This disables the follicle from
growing hair, which means that gradually over several treatments,
there is a permanent reduction in the amount of hair in that
area.
H&L: Is treatment with the Aurora
really safe with all skin types?
Dr. T: Yes, treatment with the Aurora is safe for all type of
skin. Until now, there has not been a laser system available
for all skin colours. Recent advances in the Aurora technology
that make it one of the safest hair removal systems with no burning
of the skin. THere are also no possible long term health hazards
from light or electric energies used in the Aurora as both have
been used for decades in medicine, surgery, and aesthetics without
adversity.
H&L: What kind of results can our
readers expect from Aurora treatment?
Dr. T: Each Aurora treatment will result in less hair coming
back, as well as hair growing progressively lighter in color,
finer, and slower-growing with each treatment. It takes more
that 1 treatment to affect all the follicles growing in an area.
Most people achieve satisfactory clearance after 4-8 treatments,
but individual results vary depending on medical and genetic
factors. Lighter colored hair may require more treatments than
darker colored hair.
H&L: How frequently would our readers
need treatments?
Dr. T: The treatments are usually performed every 2-3 months,
but this depends on individual factors that and our Aurora clinician,
Julie Redmond will discuss these with you during consultation.
H&L: Does the treatment hurt?
Dr. T: The sensation if often described
as “hot pinch”,
or “snapping” feeling. The sensation only lasts for
fraction of a second, and you may feel warmth or tingling sensation
for a short time afterward. Most people tolerate treatment without
any topical anesthetic, which numbs the skin from feeling sensation.
H&L: What happens after each treatment?
Dr. T: Temporary pinkness in the skin
lasts a very short time, and most people return to work or
normal activities immediately
after treatment. The treated area will “shed” some
hairs over the next 3-4 weeks, and you may experience a period
of hairlessness in the area while you wait for you next treatment.
H&L: Who should get Aurora treatment
for Hair Removal?
Dr. T: Anyone who wants a permanent solution to shaving, waxing,
plucking, or electrolysis. There are a few medical conditions
that contraindicate people from treatment which will be discussed
with your Aurora clinician during consultation.
H&L: Are the treatments expensive?
Dr. T: The Aurora favours very considerably with most of the
inferior and cheaper high street brands. This means an upper
lip costs about E80, bikini E150 AND full legs E500. The procedures
are also performed in a controlled medical enviroment.
H&L: Can Aurora be used for anything
else?
Dr. T: Yes, this
is the best treatment on the market for those dilated red veins
seen in
Aurora procedures performed at the Ailesbury
